Late Outburst Helps Snappers Get Past LumberKings

5/13/2008- The Snappers claimed game two of their four-game series with the LumberKings by a final of 7-5 with the help of Clinton reliever Adalberto Flores and his back-to-back balks in the bottom of the eighth inning. Flores and his LumberKings pitching staff allowed six of their seven runs in the last two innings to fall to the Snaps.

Clinton got things going first in the top of the fifth and sixth innings. The LumberKings got two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth off Beloit starter David Bromberg to take an early 3-0 lead after five and a half.

Ben Revere got Beloit on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI-single to first base. Revere dribbled a ball down the first base line and beat Clinton first baseman Ian Gac to the bag to reach safely. Ben’s hustle allowed Ramon Santana, who earlier tripled, to score from third base. The run drew Beloit to within one run, 3-1.

The Snappers then took the lead in the bottom of the seventh inning with three more runs. The inning was highlighted by a Ben Revere two-run single to second, scoring Steve Singleton and Joe Benson, and giving the Snaps a 4-3 lead.

The LumberKings then took the lead right back with two runs in the top of the eighth inning. Mitch Moreland took a Brad Tippett pitch deep over the left field wall with a runner on base to put Clinton back ahead 5-4. Then things got a little crazy.

Garrett Olson led off the bottom of the eighth with a double down the left field line. Chris Parmelee followed him with a walk and proceeded to be pinch-run for by Mark Dolenc. Clinton then made a pitching change, bringing in reliever Adalberto Flores to try and close the door.

Flores let up an RBI-single to Daniel Lehmann, scoring Olson from second base and moving Dolenc up to second. Lehmann and Dolenc both moved up a bag one batter later on a wild pitch from Flores. Beloit’s Steve Singleton then lined into a double play and it looked like Clinton was going to get out of the eighth only letting up one.

Joe Benson drew a walk with two outs to put runners on first and third with two outs. Adalberto then proceeded to balk in Dolenc from third and advanced Benson to second base. The Clinton reliever then allowed Benson to move to third on a wild pitch and balked him in one pitch later to put the Snappers ahead 7-5 after eight.

Spencer Steedly pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second win of the season and send the fans home happy.

Ben Revere was 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Beloit who improved to 18-19 on the season. Clinton dropped to 25-9.
